Ten Penny Thoughts
I welcome the worry I’ve grown to favor
Favor the restless I can’t shake
The walls started writing the words on themselves
To find out what’s beneath the paint
If I could muster up the courage
I’d read what they have to say
This house holds the hurt that’s festered in its guts
Tile and hardwood, ten penny thoughts
I welcome the change I can’t see coming
I see the welcome I can’t feel
Swelled up oak in the hallway, memories of birthdays
Ruined by the contents of the fridge
Just the outcome of cheap wine spilled
A needed embrace that was never had
This head holds the stories that’s buried beneath
A new haircut and a baseball cap
Tile and hardwood - ten penny thoughts
