Meadowlands Fair
A Tuesday night at the Meadowlands Fair
A two-headed duck, the sign says it’s rare
It’s got to be a fake, cheap thrills for a buck
My sister, the optimist, sees two bills for one…
she sure is smart
I lost her last Friday near the penny arcade
I won a monkey, the Tilt-a-Whirl screams
Alone in the crowd, I called my father, he calls the Sheriff
A search party sounds fun...I can tell you they’re not
Carnivals and fairgrounds, gather up the bloodhounds
Sniffing out that bastard that broke my mother’s heart
Funnel cakes and corndogs, they just lead to hard hearts
Waiting for the news that’s bound to make it want to stop
11:53 PM
they must have found something, this place is riddled with sin
The Gravitron sits still, the Ferris Wheel just rocks
I guess they’re all scared to move, I know I am
while the arcade games are dark
Carnivals and fairgrounds, gather up the bloodhounds
Sniffing out that bastard that broke my mother’s heart
Funnel cakes and corndogs, they just lead to hard hearts
Waiting for the news that’s bound to make it want to stop
Well, they called my mother over,
I watch tears cascade from her eyes
My father took her hand
and led her away from the rides
Oh the car ride home was silent
but I swear I heard them screaming
A Tuesday night at the Meadowlands Fair
That two-headed duck, they found her in there
It’s gotta be a fake, that can’t be my sister
Who’s the optimist now...she sure was smart
