If I Knew Now What I Knew Then
We were proud of where we came from, cigarette conversations
We were full of shit and big ideas
Yeah we loiter on the pavement, in front of Phormost Foodmart
Back when payphones were still a thing, yeah we wanted to be kings of this town
If I knew now what I knew then
We would get drunk on the rooftops, 157 proof, the hard stuff
Yeah, they don’t even sell that brand anymore
Bound to follow in the footsteps of what our parents show us
Never quite knowing what was wrong, yeah, we’ll blame it all along on this town
If home is where the heart is, I’m not sure where I need to be
But my heart’s still out there searching for something that can’t be seen
It’s only living if you mean it, but the meaning is lost on me
Longing for a reason and the man I used to be
If I knew now what I knew then, yeah if I knew now that I knew then
Back when the towers were still standing, I still remember their reflections
In the backed up storm drains on Friday nights
We were standing with our eyes open, when the city’s heart was broken
We were too young to stop hoping it could ever be the same in that town
If home is where the heart is, I’m not sure where I need to be
But my heart’s still out there searching for something that can’t be seen
It’s only living if you mean it, but the meaning is lost on me
Longing for a reason and the man I used to be
If I knew now what I knew then, yeah if I knew now that I knew then
That old jukebox had to play, we didn’t start the fire
Hey, Billy, tell me, where are we now
This old dive bar fuels my thirst, forget anything that hurts
But I remember everything somehow
If I knew now what I knew then, if I knew now what I knew then
If I knew now what I knew then, if I knew now what I knew then
